Goal Setting
Winners Circle serves as a tool for the classroom and the school, promoting academic achievement and serving to improve the learning climate of the classroom. Teachers are encouraged to adapt the program to their individual teaching styles.
Setting Classroom Goals
Goals are used to reinforce existing classroom efforts to increase academics and positive behavior. Quarterly recognition celebrations and incentives help motivate classrooms to achieve their goals.
Goals are measureable and challenging to the student, but not impossible to achieve. Goals are simply stated and students understand the expectations and steps involved in reaching them. We emphasize that individualized goals are the most effective kinds of goals and help create a meaningful experience for the student.
Whether the teacher sets goals for the students in their classroom, or the students write their own, goals are always S.M.A.R.T.!
Specific – Goals focus on skills or concepts that require mastery.
Measureable – Goals can easily and objectively be evaluated.
Attainable – Goals require challenge, but can be reached with effort.
Realistic – Goals are set in achievable terms.
Timely – Goals can be reached during a given school quarter.
Students know the criteria needed to reach their goals. Goals are fair and focus on areas that will need the most motivational support during the quarter. Teachers utilize the motivational support and incentives provided by the Winners Circle program to help students get over the academic and behavioral hurdles that stand in their way to success.
